UCHS Announces 2011 Hall of Fame Inductees

Two jazz musicians and a cancer surgeon among the inductees for the 2011 UCHS Hall of Fame.

The nine University City High School (UCHS) graduates selected for induction into the school’s 2011 Hall of Fame represent the fields of music, medicine, business, research, law enforcement and writing. Members of the 2011 UCHS Hall of Fame induction class are:

  • Neal Caine, Class of 1991, professional jazz musician
  • Christopher Krehmeyer, Class of 1980, president/CEO of Beyond Housing
  • David A Lieberman, Class of 1968, chief of gastroenterology at Oregon Health Sciences University
  • Kenneth R. Mares, Class of 1961, UMSL professor and director of Students and Teachers As Research Scientists (STARS)
  • Peter H. Martin, Class of 1987, professional jazz musician
  • Alan R. Spector, Class of 1964, author and lecturer
  • Harlan Steinbaum, Class of 1950, retired founder and CEO of Express Scripts
  • The late Tyrone Leon Thompson, Class of 1982, former police officer and youth mentor
  • Terry McGlothin, Class of 1980, surgeon specializing in breast oncology

The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be part of the school district's Centennial Celebration Weekend and will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, at the Crowne Plaza in Clayton. The reception begins at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p.m. 

The UCHS Hall of Fame was established in 1999 as a way of recognizing alumni accomplishments. During its brief history, 101 UCHS graduates have already been inducted. Some of the past honorees include playwright Tennessee Williams, OASIS founder Marylen Mann, sculptor Saunders Schultz, Grammy Award winning rapper Cornell “Nelly” Haynes, Oakland A’s co-owner Lewis Nelson Wolff, and philanthropist E. Desmond Lee.

The nomination deadline for the UCHS Hall of Fame is the last Friday in January of odd-numbered years with inductions held later that fall on the Friday of Homecoming weekend. UCHS alumni are eligible for Hall of Fame nomination 10 years following graduation.
