U City School Board to Discuss School Security

The School District of University City board of education meeting is slated for 7 p.m. tonight.

The School District of University City plans to update parents, staff and other stakeholders on the District's current safety and security program, recommended changes and the program’s overall evaluation.

District administrators will provide the update during the regular January board meeting, slated for 7 p.m. at the Ronald E. McNair Administration Building, 8136 Groby Road.

“While no amount of planning can guarantee that a tragedy like what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School will not occur, we are doing everything in our power to keep our students and staff safe,” said Joylynn Pruitt, superintendent of schools.

“Because of national school violence, parents everywhere have concerns,” she said. “We want to assure our parents that our schools are safe and that we take our responsibility for ensuring their child’s safety seriously.”
