LGBT Index Gives High Ranking to Washington University

Washington University offers domestic partnership benefits and has an LGBT advisory board.

For the second year in a row, Washington University has received the top rating in the LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index, published annually by Campus Pride.

Wash U was one of 33 schools, out of about 300 to receive a five-star rating. Wash U received five stars in the categories of;

  • Overall Campus Climate
  • Sexual Orientation Score
  • Student Life, Housing and Residence Life
  • Campus Safety
  • Counseling and Health
  • Recruitment
  • Retention Effort

The index is intended to help campuses become more "inclusive, welcoming and respectful," the report states.

Washington University offers domestic partnership benefits, health care for transitioning students and a university-wide LGBT advisory board.

Upcoming LGBT-related events include an LGBT All-Community Welcome reception at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge; Bisexuality Awareness Day Friday, Sept. 23; “OUT in the Workplace” in conjunction with the Career Center at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Goldberg Formal Lounge; National Coming Out Day Tuesday, Oct. 11; and Holobaugh Honors Feb. 8, 2012, in Holmes Lounge.
