Corrie Woolley Is the U City Teacher of the Year

Woolley teaches at Julia Goldstein Early Childhood Education Center.

The has named Corrie Woolley of as the 2012-2013 University City Teacher of the Year.

Woolley has been an early childhood teacher in the School District of University City since 2006. Colleagues describe her as a strong leader, a skilled and dedicated educator, and a teacher who is committed to building relationships with her students and their families. 

“What I find most impressive about Ms. Woolley is her knowledge of early childhood pedagogy and her delivery of instruction,” said Crystal Cauley, director of Julia Goldstein Early Childhood Education Center. “This school year she has implemented writer’s workshop in her preschool classroom and the results are astonishing. Ms. Woolley’s room is full of emerging young writers who truly enjoy the experience of putting their ideas and experiences on paper.”

Woolley will represent the School District of University City in the Missouri Teacher of the Year competition. 

“I was honored enough to be nominated, but actually winning was shocking,” said Woolley. “I am so excited that I was chosen out of the nominees. There are so many great teachers in University City, and I know it was a difficult choice. I am happy to represent our school district.”

Woolley was honored at the University City Board of Education meeting April 19 and will be honored at the District’s annual Honorees and Retirees event at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24 at the Julia Goldstein Early Childhood Education Center.

The Honorees and Retirees event is free and open to the public.
