CORRECTION: U City Picked to Host Historic Preservation Conference in 2012

U City has been chosen to host the State Historic Preservation Conference in 2012.

University City will get a chance to showcase its history and culture on a larger scale.

U City has been chosen to host the annual State of Missouri Historic Preservation Conference in 2012. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources carried out the selection process.

The conference dates and venue(s) have not been finalized, said Andrea Riganti, Director of Community Development for University City.

U City will plan the event in partnership with Missouri Preservation and the Department of Natural Resources – sometime later this year/early 2012.

"The the typical number of HPC attendees is 200. Estimates for economic impact are usually based on average spending per conference attendee," said Riganti.

This year's conference will be held in Joplin despite the tornado. 

The conference is designed to appeal to a broad range of preservation interests. It will feature a keynote speaker and 3 tracks of educational sessions. There will also be exhibits, tours, and networking receptions.

According to information from the City's Community Development Department, U City will receive a $20,000 grant from DNR to help plan the event. Additionally, a local match of $13,334 has been pledged.

Last October the City Council adopted a resolution in support of U City hosting the event.
