U City Participating in Cans for Cash

The city is one of many competing in the recycling challenge.

The  is asking residents to help it win the 2012 Cans for Cash Recycling Challenge by recycling aluminum cans during March and April.

University City is participating in the 2012 Cans for Cash City Recycling Challenge sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Novelis, Inc. The challenge is a competition between cities to collect the most aluminum cans during a 4 week period.

Winning cities will be determined by the ratio of the city population to the total number of cans recycled during a four week collection period between March 1 and April 30, 2012.

U City won fourth place and $5,000 in last year's competition.

Three awards are available this year — first place, $25,000; second place, $15,000; and third place, $5,000.

The awards will be presented in June at the 2012 U. S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting in Orlando.
