U City Approves Contract for New Loop Cameras

The move will add four new cameras.

The University City City Council Monday approved a contract with Will Electronics to add four additional cameras to the Delmar Loop area. The cost of the addtional cameras is $35,517.

The board voted to add the cameras at its December meeting. The first round of cameras were installed in the Loop over the summer.

The existing cameras are attached to buildings and provide University City Police with a view of the street and public parking lots. While the cameras had been in the works for years, business owners really pushed for them after a particularly disruptive weekend last April in the Loop, which involved hundreds of unruly young people.
