Syria Speech: Rep. William Lacy Clay Weighs In

The Missouri Democrat released a statement Wednesday following President Obama's speech Tuesday night.

President Barack Obama addressed the nation Tuesday night on the use of chemical weapons in Syria and the United States position moving forward.

The following is a first-person statement from Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay (D) Missouri in reaction to President Obama’s address to the nation regarding the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

"We should exhaust every diplomatic effort to resolve this crisis. While I remain undecided regarding any future congressional authorization to use force, this much is certain; President Obama’s strong leadership has opened the door to a potential diplomatic achievement that could remove the threat of Syria’s chemical weapons without firing a shot. That would be a remarkable outcome that we must make every effort to achieve.”
