State Sen. Chappelle-Nadal Appointed to Disaster Panel

State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal has been appointed to a committee on natural disaster recovery.

State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal has been appointed to serve on the Senate Interim Committee on Natural Disaster Recovery.

"I am proud to work to make sure our government is the most helpful it can be during rebuilding efforts, and it’s an honor to serve on this committee," said the Democrat from University City.

She said Missouri residents have been hard hit by several natural disasters over the past year.

“Historic snowfall, mega tornadoes and storms, recent flooding and spouts of heavy rainfall have produced a devastating effect on the lives of almost everyone in the state."

My connection to the extreme flooding that hit my district in 2008, when two elderly citizens lost their lives, will help in addressing some of the needs of the committee.”

Chappelle-Nadal will serve with five other members on the Emergency Response Subcommittee.

The Senate Interim Committee on Natural Disaster Recovery is made up of three subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Emergency Response, the Subcommittee on Fiscal Response, and the Subcommittee on Insurance Response.  Each subcommittee is tasked to hear public testimony and consult with different state and local agencies during its investigations. 

The committee’s preliminary findings and recommendations must be issued by Sept. 1, 2011, before the Missouri Senate convenes for its annual veto session
