Chappelle-Nadal told University City Patch she never uttered those words. "I absolutely, absolutely, positively deny that. I would never say anything like that. That would never come out of my mouth."

Chappelle-Nadal told the Post that she told Nasheed: "If I was mentally unstable as you suggested, as you assert I was, I would have done something as criminal as you did, when you went to jail and stabbed someone."

Nasheed has been open about her troubled past, which included time in a juvenile detention center for stabbing a rival gang member.

Nasheed released a statement Tuesday that said, while the two politicians are on opposite sides of the local control bill, and have been at odds about it, Nasheed stated, "at this point I would like to end any personal differences and disagreements with the senator." She added "There are simply too many pressing issues at stake in our city, state and our country for us to have any other focus than our communities."

Nasheed is in favor of local control, while Chappelle-Nadal opposes it.
