Rally Tonight to Celebrate DOMA Decision

The rally begins at 6 p.m.

Feel like celebrating the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision today to strike down portions of the Defense of Marriage Act, granting equal protection to gay and lesbian couples under the Fifth Amendment?

The LGBT Center of St. Louis is holding a celebration rally at 6 p.m. tonight at the center, 4337 Manchester Road, St. Louis.

The rally is being sponsored by PROMO, the statewide organization advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality, according to Susan K. Nanny, executive director of the LGBT Center.

"We'll have some couples speaking and some other stuff going on," she said.

Nanny told Patch that while the Center is celebrating the victory, there is still uncertainty about the states that don't allow gay marriage. Missouri voters amended the state constitution in 2004 to ban gay marriage.

"I think change will follow pretty quickly," she said. "We are hopeful."

Read more from PROMO, Missouri's LGBT organization, about the historic Supreme Court decision and how it affects gay couples.
