Bank to Open in the Loop

The building that used to house Screenz is getting a new tenant -- a bank.

A new business is set to open in the Loop.

Fifth Third Bank, which is headquartered out of Cincinnati, has plans to take over the building at 6680 Delmar Blvd., which most recently housed .

At Monday night's City Council meeting, council members approved a Conditional Use Permit application on behalf of the bank.

"This is the first time that I can recall where we've had a major corporation come into the Loop as a tenant," said Council member L. Michael Glickert (Second Ward).

He said it's a Fortune 100 company that is going to employ ten full-time people and four part-time people. "I think that is a tremendous boon to the Loop and to University City," he said.

He said another plus is that those workers will hopefully be spending money in the Loop. "It's going to be great because those people are going to eat lunch in the Loop and maybe kick back at night in the Loop."

Glickert said he believes the bank will occupy the building by May 1. "They have to do some work on the inside to make it look like a bank."

Fifth Third Bank has other branches in St. Louis including in Clayton, the Central West End and Brentwood.
