The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is alerting drivers to a number of lane and ramp closures taking place on Highway 40 in downtown St. Louis this week. The closures are on the routes many drivers will use to access downtown St. Louis.
MoDOT officials also stated in a news release that traffic will still be able to get into downtown for the upcoming St. Louis Cardinals home games against the San Francisco Giants.
Closures to the westbound lanes will be wrapped up before the Cardinals make it back to St. Louis for the home games, but many of the eastbound lane and ramp closures will still be taking place.
MoDOT released the following lane and ramp closure details and detour information in its news release.
The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, Penhall Company, will close all lanes and ramps on westbound I-64 downtown between Jefferson and the Poplar Street Bridge on the double deck structure, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16.
All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday. The detour around the closure will be to take westbound I-44 to Jefferson Avenue to get back onto I-64.
For eastbound I-64, one right lane continues to be closed around the clock. A second lane closes weekdays from 8 p.m. to 2 p.m. the following day. Two lanes are scheduled to be open on eastbound I-64 at least one hour prior to any Cardinals National League Championship home game.
The 6th Street ramp and 11th Street ramp from eastbound I-64 also have periodic closures scheduled. Both ramps will not be closed at the same time. Both ramps will normally be open between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily and will be open to allow fans to get into downtown for Cardinal home games.
The 14th Street ramp from eastbound I-64 is projected to remain open only between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday this week. The ramp is projected to be closed around the clock Friday and Saturday.
The ramp from 6th Street to eastbound I-64 will remain open. There may be short-duration closures of the ramp (up to two hours) if crews are working on the steel plates at the top of the ramp. The ramp will remain open for at least one hour after Cardinal home games to allow Illinois fans to return home.
The Pine Street and Forest Park Avenue ramps to eastbound I-64 remain closed around the clock until November.
All temporary barrier on the double deck structure is scheduled to be removed by Nov. 1. After that date, only weekend work is planned for the double deck structure downtown.
