City to Hold Sustainable Land Use, Trolley Meetings

Public hearings will allow citizens to voice their concerns.

The will be holding two public meetings this week for residents to learn about two important projects for University City—the sustainable land use code and the Loop Trolley Project.

Land Use

A public meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, at University City City Hall as part of the 2-day Sustainable Land Use Code Audit Workshop awarded to the city by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). All interested parties are invited to attend the meeting, to be held in the fifth floor council chambers.

Karl Brooks, EPA Region 7 Administrator, will give brief remarks and an overview of sustainable land use code audit tool will be discussed.

University City is one of the 56 communities across the nation and the only city in the St. Louis metropolitan area that receives technical assistance through the EPA’s Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities program in 2012. The City has been awarded a Sustainable Land Use Code Audit workshop. The workshop will identify ways to improve the city’s zoning and subdivision codes to incorporate sustainability.

Building Blocks is a project of the Partnership for Sustainable Communities, involving EPA, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The interagency collaboration coordinates federal investments in infrastructure, facilities and services to get better results for communities and use taxpayer money more efficiently. The partnership is helping communities across the country create more housing choices, make transportation more efficient and reliable, reinforce existing investments, and support vibrant and healthy neighborhoods that attract businesses.

Loop Trolley

University City is also hosting a public meeting on the Loop Trolley project at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, in the auditorium of the , 6701 Delmar Blvd. Mayor Shelley Welsch will be running the meeting on behalf of the City.

The city invited the Loop Trolley Company and the East-West Gateway Council of Governments to attend this meeting to provide additional feedback to residents on this important project, and to take questions.
