City Accepting Bids for Design, Printing and Mailing of 2012 Calendars

The city is accepting bids for the design, printing and mailing of the 2012 City Calendar. The bids are due by Sept. 19.

Even though University City is still trying to get reimbursed for the problem-plagued , U City has started laying the groundwork for the 2012 edition of the annual calendar.

The city is accepting bids for the design, printing and mailing of the 2012 City Calendar. The bids are due by Sept. 19. The city provides the annual calendar to residents and businesses via direct mail each December.

The 2011 calendars were plagued by problems from the start. Part of one zip code was missed, reportedly causing some University City residents to receive their calendar late or never at all, while some calendars went to residents in Ladue and Clayton. Also, additional calendars had to be reprinted to make sure all residents received one.

The city's legal counsel has been working to get reimbursement for the city's additional costs.

City Manager Lehman Walker said the city worked with a different mail order company for the 2011 calendars. He said the city went with a cheaper mail order company—something he admitted probably was not the best decision. "We put it out to bid, and we went with the lowest. Sometimes lowest is not best."

Last week, University City Patch asked Walker for an update on the calendar situation. He responded, "The legal issue has still not been resolved."
