University City Teen Charged As Adult in Burglaries

Kyren Chunn is charged with four burglaries, one of them while he was 14 years old. Chunn was charged as an adult after being charged with committing a burglary after he turned 17.

A 17-year-old University City resident faces charges in four burglaries, one of them dating back to when he was 14 years old.

Kyren Chunn, 17, of the 7800 block of Birchmont Avenue in University City, was charged Thursday with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of theft.

Those charges are for incidents in 2010 and 2011 when Chunn was 14 and 15 years old.

They were filed after Chunn was charged in September for two first-degree burglaries and two felony thefts on July 17, after he turned 17 years old. In Missouri, people are automatically tried as adults once they turn 17.

University City Police said Chunn acted as a lookout March 16, 2010 as two other people entered a building in the 1300 block of 82nd Boulevard and stole a safe containing cash.

Police said Chunn and others entered a home through a window in the 7900 block of Glenside Place on Feb. 28, 2011. They stole a laptop computer and a camera, according to a court document.

Chunn also was connected to two burglaries in Ladue.

In those burglaries, Marquis D. Baker, 18, of the 8000 block of Appleton Drive in University City, was charged with two counts each of first-degree burglary and felony theft.

Baker acted with Chunn in the Ladue burglaries, according to a court document.

Ladue Police said Baker and Chunn entered a home May 30 in the first block of Ricardo Lane and stole a Mac Book laptop. Police said the two and entered a home March 21, 2012 in the first block of Westerly Lane and stole two Mac Book laptops.

Chunn has not been charged in the Ladue burglaries. He would have been 16 years old at the time.

Bail for Chunn was set at $5,000 for the Feb. 28 burglary and $5,000 for the 2010 burglary.

Bail for Baker was set at $50,000. Baker is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center.
