U City Police: Burglars Forced Entry to Homes

Each week, features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of June 17-23, 2013. 

The department arrested 58 adults and 12 juveniles. There was one report of robbery, six burglaries, one attempted burglary and two motor vehicle thefts.

Monday, June 17

  • Officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call in the 6700 block of Etzel. Three suspects entered the residence. Upon police arrival, the suspect fled in newer model Ford Taurus, lime green or gold in color, with tinted windows, and Illinois license plate. Police pursued the vehicle into St. Louis and lost sight in the area of Highway 70.
  • The reporting party stated person(s) unknown forced the front door of the residence in the 1200 block of George Street open and stole several items. The reporting party’s cousin and his friend are listed as suspects.
  • Officers responded to an alarm sounding in the 8100 block of Blancha. Upon arrival, an officer observed the front door to have been damaged and was open. The owner stated the only item to be missing was an electronic item. A neighbor reported hearing several loud bangs and seeing an unfamiliar car backed into the driveway. The two suspects are similar and believed to be the same who committed the burglary on Etzel that was reported a short time later. Vehicle description same as the one chased by officers. The suspects’ vehicle is described as a gold Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable. 
Tuesday, June 18
  • The reporting party discovered someone had opened the kitchen window in a home in the 900 block of Trinity. In addition, a decorative sign that had been inside the window was lying on the steps outside. A neighbor observed a person looking around on the front porch of the victim's residence. A man, 19, was arrested and charged with burglary. During the investigation it was determined he was responsible for another burglary in the 700 block of Harvard, same block of his residence. The suspect also admitted to a burglary that had not been reported. The investigation continues.

Wednesday, June 19

  • The reporting person was jogging near Delmar and Jackson when approached and struck with an unknown object, causing her to fall. While on the ground, the reporting party stated a male was pulling at her iPod. The suspect took the item and ran. Two witnesses observed the incident, and the man gave chase but the suspect fled. Officers spotted the suspect and chased several blocks before capturing him in the Loop. A 17-year-old who lives in St. Louis was arrested and charged with robbery, stealing and resisting arrest. 
Friday, June 21 
  • An officer responded to a broken business window in the 6600 block of Delmar. The officer discovered that the window to a business had been shattered. The suspects' vehicle was a light-colored SUV. 
  • The reporting party stated person(s) unknown stole motorcycle, which was parked in the carport of the residence in the 7100 block of White Oak Lane. The reporting party stated the motorcycle's steering was locked. 
Sunday, June 23
  • The reporting party stated person(s) unknown attempted to steal his vehicle in the 6900 block of Delmar.
  • The reporting party stated person(s) unknown forcibly entered a residence in the 1300 block of Sheridan Ave. through the kitchen window. The reporting party, in the process of moving, stated a ladder was outside of the window. No items were missing.
