Teenager Shot in University City Tuesday

One man is in custody after 12:30 p.m. shooting.

A teenager was shot in the head Tuesday afternoon, allegedly by a man in a wheelchair. 

Police Captain Michael Ransom said it happened about 12:30 Tuesday afternoon, on Ahern, just west of Hanley. 

The teen, who was to be a student, was  to not even be a U City resident.

Police believe the incident occurred during a drug deal, and that both the victim and the suspect were armed. 

Fox2News reports that the victim is between the ages of 16-17 and is fighting for his life at an area hospital.

Chief Charles Adams told Fox2 that there was a weapon in the teen's hand. 

“Right now we’re trying to figure out exactly what exactly transpired, but its pretty much surmised there was some kind of drug transaction going on,” he said.

Police took the man in the wheelchair into custody.

"The victim was found with a weapon on his person and we found an additional weapon we believe one of the other people discarded as they were trying to leave," Capt. Ransom told KSDK.  It appears this was some type of drug transaction and there was some disagreement and a shooting erupted."
