Update: Wash U Runner Killed While Jogging

Gabrielle Reuveni was a junior on the rise and a track and cross-country star at Washington University in St. Louis when she was struck by a vehicle Saturday while running.

The valedictorian of the Paramus High Class of 2010 died Saturday when she was struck by a pickup truck while jogging in the Poconos.

Gabrielle Reuveni, 20, was out for her daily run at her family's vacation home in Pennsylvania when she was struck and killed by a man driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, NorthJersey.com reported.

The man who was driving the truck was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, CliffviewPilot.com reported, citing the Pennsylvania state police and Reuveni's father.

Reuveni was a member of the 2011 National Champion women’s cross-country team, and an International Area Studies major at in St. Louis. She was also a member of the Alpha Phi sorority, according to Washington University's independent school paper, Student Life.

“The whole Washington University Cross Country Track and Field program, everyone is mourning and grieving and we’re going to miss her beyond words,” said Jeff Stiles, the University’s head cross country coach. “It’s just sober. It’s just shock. And we’re devastated. And words don’t do justice.”

Reuveni was working as an account coordinator at Sigma Group in Oradell.

By Sunday evening, more than 1,000 people had joined a Facebook page in honor of Reuveni. Friends shared photos, memories and condolences, even offering to host out of town guests for the funeral.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert Schoem Menorah Chapel located at 150 West Route 4 in Paramus.
