Mobile Police Command Spotted at Shell Gas Station in the Loop

Week after unruly youths disrupt Loop activities, police presence is beefed up in the Loop.

At 6:30pm Friday a University City Patch reader sent in this picture of a police command van parked at the Shell gas station on the corner of Delmar and Skinker.

This past week, Loop business owners expressed their frustration at large groups of kids loitering and running amok in the Loop last weekend. Some of the incidents involved kids walking by outside diners and screaming in their face, stealing cellphones and general disruptive behavior.

According to a St. Louis police press release, the mobile police command post allows police officers access to communications tools and data that they'd normally have to go back to their area stations to retrieve. It allows officers to spend more time in the targeted neighborhoods and serves as a reminder to those who may be willing to offend, that police are watching.
