Man Used Rag in Attempted Robberies, Police Say

A University City man attempted to rob two women along Olive Boulevard Friday using a rag to simulate a weapon. He did not receive any money.

Ronald Stokes, 57, of the 1700 block of Gulf Drive in U City, was charged Saturday with two counts of attempted robbery.

University City Police said Stokes held the rag in his hand “to simulate a weapon” and demanded money from a woman at 7844 Olive Boulevard. He tried the same thing later at 7701 Olive Boulevard on second woman.

Stokes is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center. Bail was set at $25,000.
