Man Charged With Murder in Shooting Death of U City Mother and Son

One of the victims had been threatened previously by the defendant's friend, according to a University City Police report.

A man was charged Wednesday afternoon in the Oct. 29 shooting death of a mother and her son at Sutter and Bartmer avenues.

Carlos Suber, 21, of the 1000 block of Roth Avenue in University City, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.

University City Police said Suber shot and killed Phebe Stallings, 54, and her son Mosary Stallings, 23, both residents of the 6500 block of Bartmer.

Witnesses identified Suber as the person running from the shooting scene, according to court documents. Suber also has been identified as having a weapon and making threatening statements about Mosary Stallings, University City Police said.

Suber is being held in St. Louis County jail. Bail has been set at $500,000, cash only.

Previously, Suber’s friend, Jerry Hudson-Keys, had been arrested and charged with tampering with a witness because he said the witness had gotten his friends, Suber and Anthony Washington Jr. locked up, “and now he was going to die." Stallings was not the victim in that case.

Suber, Hudson-Keys and Washington had been charged with a July 12, 2011 robbery.
