Man Charged With Burglarizing U City Home Thursday

The defendant also faces burglary charges in Wellston, according to court documents.

A man was charged with burglarizing a University City home on Thursday.

Matvey Kovalenko, 26, of the 1300 block of Hickory Hill in South County near Arnold, was charged Friday with second-degree burglary and felony stealing.

said Kovalenko broke into a home in the 7000 block of Kingsbury Avenue in at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday and stole a jewelry box. The jewelry’s combined value is more than $500, police said.

Kovalenko also faces separate charges for burglarizing a home in Wellston on Dec. 28.

Bond was set at $50,000.
