Man Broke Into Cars Parked at U City's Community Centers, Police Say

University City Police said one vehicle owner found his car stereo listed for sale on Craigslist, leading to the arrest.

A man is accused of breaking into four cars in University City, including three parked outside Centennial Commons, after one victim found his car stereo for sale on Craigslist.

Danyell Cortez McMiller, of the 4800 block of Hammett Place in St. Louis, was charged with two counts of felony stealing, two counts of misdemeanor stealing and four counts of first-degree property damage.

University City Police said McMiller was responsible for the following car break-ins:

  • A 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was broken into July 3 at the Heman Park Community Center. An Alpine car stereo and CD player, valued at $700, was stolen and the SUV was damaged.
  • A 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier was broken into between 8 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. July 3 outside Centennial Commons at 7210 Olive Blvd., a Sony car stereo was stolen and the car was damaged.
  • A 2007 Chevrolet Impala was broken into at about 4:52 p.m. July 4 outside Centennial Commons. Sony Xplod speakers, a Bose amplifier, a Coach purse and cash were stolen. The items were valued at $1,050 and the car was damaged.
  • A 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was broken into between 3 and 8 p.m. July 4 outside Centennial Commons. A JVC car stereo and CD player was stolen.

University City Police said the owner of the Chevrolet Suburban found his stereo listed for sale on Craigslist. Police arranged a purchase and arrested McMiller.

McMiller is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center. Bail was set at $35,000.
