Forgotten Cell Phone Helps Officers Nab U City Burglar, Police Say

A Jennings man is accused of breaking into a University City home after police said he left his cell phone behind in the house.

Jelani Kyles Bouchillon, 21, of the 200 block of Hord Avenue in Jennings, was charged May 22 with first-degree burglary and attempted theft.

University City Police said a resident returned to her home Nov. 10 in the 1400 block of Coolidge Drive, and heard someone inside. She left and called police. When officers arrived, they found two televisions near her back door and a backpack containing a gaming console in her backyard.

The next day, the woman found a cell phone that didn’t belong in the house. Police found the phone belongs to Bouchillon, who did not know the victim.

Bail was set at $25,000 for Bouchillon.
