Fire at Ranoush Restaurant in University City

The owner of Ranoush said it was an electrical fire.

A scare in the Loop Saturday after a small fire broke out at the Middle Eastern restaurant Ranoush, located at 6501 Delmar.

The fire started around 11:30am. responded to the blaze, which broke out in one of the restaurant's exterior electrical signs.

The restaurant reopened for business later Saturday afternoon.

"Thank God nobody got hurt," said Ranoush owner Aboud Alhami. "We were a bit lucky."

The interior of the restaurant was not damaged. "Inside is fine," said Alhami.

He told University City Patch that when he showed up at the restaurant Saturday morning the employees told him it smelled smoky.

"I saw the smoke but I didn't know from where and somebody from outside...one of my employees...they said the smoke was from outside. We went outside and we saw the smoke," said Alhamid.

He said fire officials told him it appeared to be an electrical fire.
