Charges Looming for a Woman that Killed University City Pedestrian

The driver, who hit and killed 73 year old Frederick Lyles as he was walking along a in University City road, was intoxicated according to police.

Police have announced they are pursuing criminal charges against the driver of a pickup truck, which hit a pedestrian on Friday morning.

The crash resulted in the man's death. That man was Frederick Lyles, 73, of the 1300 block of Riegert Avenue. He was a former schoolteacher, and was walking on his way to meet friends for breakfast at a restaurant, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

He was walking south along the west shoulder of North and South Road at about 6:45 a.m, on Friday. He was almost at Olive Boulevard when a Chevrolet pickup swerved off the road and struck him, said according to Capt. Michael Ransom of the University City Police Department. The truck was headed southbound.

Lyles was immediately taken to a hospital. He died Friday morning.

According to Ransom, the 28-year-old woman driving the pickup was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Friday but was released as police investigate.
