Burglars Steal Copper Pipes, Dishwasher from Vacant U City Houses

Here is a look at this week's University City Police Department crime report.

Each week, features a look at reports from the University City Police Department. Here is a look at the blotter from the week of July 22-28, 2013. 

The department arrested 54 adults and 10 juveniles. There was one incidence of someone discharging a firearm and several incidences of burglaries and attempted burglaries

July 23

  • A person reported that he or she saw a person kick open the rear door of the residence and steal several items in the 1100 block of Partridge Ave.


July 26
  • A man observed two men enter the fenced yard of a vacant house in the 7300 block of  Stanford. While responding, police discovered copper had been stolen from the basement.

  • The resident's boyfriend broke into her house in the 7300 block of Wayne Ave.
  • Someone attempted to break into a man's house by cutting the screen on his east side of his home facing the kitchen window in the 7900 block of Gannon Ave. A garden storage box had been moved to the space beneath the window. Entry was not gained.
  • July 27
    • A person broke into an apartment via a basement door to the shared storage area and took a bicycle in the 700 block of Eastgate Ave. 
    • A person attempted breaking into a house while the resident was away overnight by damaging the west side door to the residence in the 1500 block of Mendell Ave.

    July 28
    • An unknown person kicked the basement door in and stole a watch from the master bedroom in the 7600 block of  Crest Av.

  • While playing basketball at Eastgate Park, a 4-door red or maroon Oldsmobile Alero with tinted windows drove by and several shots were fired in the 800 block of Eastgate. No injuries or damage resulted. The vehicle fled into St. Louis City.
  • A person broke into a vacant house and stole the dishwasher in the 7000 block of Melrose Ave.
