Washington U Professor Marvin Cummins Dies
He was the last head of the school's sociology department.
The last chairman of the Washington University sociology department died last week. Marvin Cummins died March 1 at the age of 77.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cummins helped lead the unsuccessful fight to keep the university from abolishing the department.
He came to Washington University in 1967 as a postdoctoral fellow.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Shaare Emeth Congregation, 11645 Ladue Road. The body was cremated.
