St. Louis Jazz Icon Mae Wheeler AKA Lady Jazz Has Died

News organizations across St. Louis report Mae Wheeler, known as "Lady Jazz," died Wednesday.

Mae Wheeler, known as "Lady Jazz" around St. Louis, died Wednesday, according to a family run Facebook page as well as several news organizations.

Wheeler was 77. At one time she was a regular performer at the recently defunct Brandt's Cafe in University City. In an article in the Riverfront Times, former Brandt's owner Jay Brandt recalls that he first meet Wheeler when he was a teenager and his parents owned a club in Gaslight Square
