Former U City Basketball Coach Ed Crenshaw Dies

Former University City High School basketball coach Ed Crenshaw died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, he was 78 and had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Crenshaw played at Sumner High School. He got his first coaching job at what is now St. Dominic High School, the Post reported. He taught there from 1960 to 1974 and was the first African-American teacher at the Catholic school.

Crenshaw coached at U City from 1974 to 1994. He retired with a record of 677 wins and 266 losses, according to the Post. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

The funeral is slated for 1 p.m. today at All Saints Catholic Church.
