Ultimate Hiking Bios: Who are we?

Follow two UCity residents as they train for the Ultimate Hike--a one-day, 30 mile trek on the Tecumseh Trail in southern Indiana.

Kara Kirchherr is University City born and raised. She attended school starting in through the . After graduating from Truman State University, Kara moved back to St. Louis to be close to her family. She has worked for 5 years as an infant-toddler teacher at with children 6 weeks-24 months. She loves taking her 1 ½ year old nephew Aiden to all the places she herself loved growing up, like watching the ducks and swinging at , walking the Loop to dance to the drum circle, and reading in the bathtubs at the. Kara has always loved the outdoors, but started hiking seriously in the summer of 2009 despite allergies and asthma – in the process she lost 40 pounds, found some weekend peace, and gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for the beauty of Missouri.

Lisa Kuehne has lived in since August 1993. She was one of the founding members of the first community garden in the Parkview area (on Syracuse Ave) and currently lives in the City View Place neighborhood near . She has two children who both attended . This year, one is at and the other attends University City High School. Lisa rides her bike or walks to work at almost every day, and loves the parks, streets and trees of U City. At work, she develops and oversees Math Programs for Cornerstone: The Center for Advanced Learning and the Department of Mathematics. Lisa has always done a lot of walking, but is an avid hiker thanks to her husband, who first shared his love of nature, beautiful views and challenging terrains with her when they lived in Upstate New York, another beautiful place to live.
