Loop Special Business District Introduces New Event

The Loop's first chalk festival will be held on September 3rd. This new annual tradition is open to all who wish to create an expressive chalk masterpiece in The Loop!

Get Your Chalk On! - The Loop’s first chalk festival will be held on September 3rd, with a rain date planned for Sept. 4th.  This new annual tradition is open to all who wish to create an expressive chalk masterpiece in The Loop.

Check-in will begin at 9am at the Chuck Berry Statue (which will be located next to Fitz’s at 6605 Delmar) and artists will receive their location of where to draw their sidewalk chalk art, and a box of chalk the morning of the event. 

Artists will be able to sign up at a fee of $10 for adults; $8 for students (ages 13-18); $2 for children under 12.

Awards will be given for the best chalk drawing in each of the four following categories:  

Best of The Loop Theme - Did you know that The Loop was designated “One of the 10 Great streets in America” by the American Planning Association?  What do you like most about The Loop?

Chalk of Fame - Pick someone from the St. Louis Walk of Fame and embody an important aspect of their life or their achievements in your artwork.  http://stlouiswalkoffame.org/inductees/

Most Creative - If a picture is worth a 1000 words, express your most creative side and tell us a story through your chalk drawing.

Viewer's Choice - Views vote on their favorite chalk masterpiece online at the Loop website at http://VisitTheLoop.com.

Prizes will include gift certificates from the event's main sponsor Blick Art Materials, along with a gift certificates from a variety of other Loop businesses, and of course CASH PRIZES!

The winning artist in each category will also be featured on The Loop website with a photo of their winning artwork, a story about their artistic background, and a link to their portfolio or personal website.
