Who Should Not Have to Worry?

It's easier to identify those who aren't deserving.

When I read or watch TV and learn about the families, and veterans that are homeless without food and heat trying to survive, I have to pause. There are thousands of UNDESERVING people in this country that have shelter, three meals a day, medical care, security, heat, TV, recreation, libraries, counseling and on and on. Please note I characterized these people as UNDESERVING on purpose, because these are the prison population.

Something is wrong, when thousands of people who have broken societies laws, to various degrees all the way to murder, don't have to worry about the necessities of life, while millions barely survive. I don't know the answer but we as human beings have judged these prisoners as unworthy of living amongst us, and yet with this sentence, they live better than many of us. I am not saying to take away all of the niceties meted out to the prisoners but somehow our society has to appropriate more to the deserving.

I am sure there are none of us who don't recognize this disparity, but like me you don't know what to do except to help out when you encounter those deserving families or veterans. We must do more, if we act more in a societal way, rather than individuals maybe we could do better. The situation is getting worse and fewer politicians seem to be aware of what's going on or don't care.

Just think about it, if you can get more by breaking the laws, what is the incentive for some of us to obey them. I viewed 60 Minutes this Sunday where several people were caught up in the undervalued (mortgage owed is much greater than the value of property) and they continued to try and pay, because it was the right thing to do. I can only hope that I would have that kind of fortitude.
