Stalled, Going Green

I have been feeling pretty good lately: recycling, changed all lights to cfms (Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs), turning off lights when leaving rooms, keep my thermostat @ 76 summer- 72 winter, etc.

I haven't been feeling guilty but cheerful because I was contributing less to global warming, than before I was made aware. Smugness has it's own rewards or lack of it.

Yikes, I am now devastated as a result of reading an article ( St. Louis Post Dispatch, Monday,  6-27-2011 Cable TV Boxes Gobble Power ). I now find myself as a result of, recently, having AT&T U Verse installed, being a charlatan. What to do, what to do? I do like the myriad of programs available when I do watch TV. I am now faced with boxes that use more electricity than almost all of the energy miser appliances purchased in the last few years.

Is my only option to go back to rabbit ears or to figure out how to shut off the power to these boxes after use? We all have to make tough decisions, what are you going to do? To do?
