Are Statistics Always Correct?

Our history as a people showed us true heroes and role models, who fought tougher battles than we fight today. History can repeat in a positive way, for African Americans and us all.

"The wealth gap widens between whites, minorities' (http://news.yahoo.com/wealth-gap-widens-between-whites-minorities), this was shocking news, particularly since I had just blogged about "Helplessness" ( This was about a young African American who had achieved wealth through banking sector, through higher education(BA & MBA) and dedication. Now we are still at the bottom with the only level left to achieve or underachieve SLAVERY.

$5,677 is less than a person receives if on supplemental social security($8,088 per year). This is shameful and mindless and no American should be satisfied with this happening in this great country. We mumble about slave wages being paid in China and other countries in the far east, how does this stick in your craw? Especially when the article points out " The median wealth of white households in 2009 was $113,149, compared with $6,325 for Hispanics and $5,677 for blacks ( I don't know why Hispanics was capitalized and not black or white), according to the analysis released by the Pew Research Center.'This amounts to 20 to 1 ratio for blacks and 18 to 1 for Hispanics, the widest since 1984 when it was 12 to 1 blacks.

My son just reminded me that, African Americans of a generation ago overcame obstacles far greater than those facing us today. Jim crow and blatant racism faced them everyday without the courts nor a friendly local, state or federal government. Many of those pockets I've mentioned before produced entrepreneurs, hospitals, doctors, lawyers, builders, and cities(millcreek in the City of St. Louis and Kinloch in St. Louis County). His Grandmother bought two four family flats in St. Louis, but couldn't move in for several years, because Caucasians wouldn't allow it. If we substitute other cities names, this statement is true " There are many stories like this in the Naked City" (San Francisco in TV series).

We can and we must overcome these bumps in the road, as did our parents and grandparents who knocked mountains out of theirs. Education and desire, for better, are essential charateristics for accomplishing this. Opportunities are here and assistance from other Americans, even if of different races, cultures and religions is here today, where it was miniscule in our parents and grandparents time.

These statistics were derived from the just completed census and I have always had a healthy skepticism for statistics. At every election I hope that their predictions are proven wrong, so far I come out on the short end 94% of the time. I don't see the stats I have just presented, in my neighborhood, nor in my relatives and friends, but I can only know of an infinitesimal, small number of people. I won't fight the truthfulness of the stats but will do my best to change them in a positive way, as did my people that overcame before me. Our children must be enlightened about their abilities through understanding their true role models, their forefathers who persevered in tougher times.
