America's Best High Schools

Why aren't University City schools on the list of "America's Best High Schools?

I just finished the Newsweek article "Americas Best High Schools' and it brought back how U. City schools were ranked in 1969, right with Clayton.  Now our schools aren't even on the list (only the top 500 were named) Clayton #89, Metro Academic and Classical ( St. Louis Public Magnet school) #93. Can a public relations firm @ $100,000 make a positive statement out of this? We have some problems that aren't going to be solved by trying to tweak the public to believe it's all positive. Even the top achievers are going to find it more difficult to get into the top schools if our district continues to slide.

I maintain "it takes our village," we all have a stake in this and the youth are asking for our help and it behooves us to listen. Rod Jennings, of the school board and Mayor Shelley Welsch are championing the cause and I applaud their efforts, let's give them true support. I wrote a comment a few days ago where I said since we have to pay taxes anyway, I would rather mine went to educate than to incarcerate!!!!
