U City in Bloom to Create Vegetable Gardens at Pershing School

There will be 16 raised beds.

U City in Bloom, in partnership with Pershing School, has received two grants that fully fund community/school vegetable gardens at Pershing Elementary School.

The grants from Lowe’s Toolbox Educational Fund and the University City Educational Foundation will fund installation of 16 raised beds (two of which will be handicapped accessible) as well as an orchard of fruit trees making Pershing the first School District of University City elementary school to have joint school/community gardens.

Work on the gardens will begin at 8 a.m. on July 24-25. The gardens will be featured on the Sept. 22, 2013 U City in Bloom Garden Tour as an example of sustainable gardening practices and as a community project done in partnership with Lowe’s Stores and University City Schools.
