Where To Find Free Flu Shots Near University City
It's almost flu season - here are few places you can stop by to get a flu shot in and around University City.
It's nearly flu season. Local healthcare providers are encouraging people to get a flu shot soon so they are protected from the flu earlier. It can take two weeks for flu antibodies to develop after you receive a flu shot.
The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) offers flu shot clinics in September and October at various locations throughout the St. Louis region, including four Krispy Kreme drive-thrus, as well as places of employment by appointment.
In addition, walk-ins are always welcome at VNA headquarters in Creve Coeur at 11440 Olive Blvd. #200.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) continues to stress the importance of annual flu shots for everyone 6 months and older to help prevent the spread of the flu virus, which can be extremely dangerous for some, especially infants, children with asthma and the elderly. The more people who are vaccinated each year, the less flu virus can spread in the community.
Flu season can begin as early as October and last as long as May. The CDC recommends getting a flu shot as soon as it becomes available in the community, as the timing of outbreaks is unpredictable.

The 2012-2013 flu vaccine protects against three strains of the flu virus deemed most prevalent by the World Health Organization. Even if people received a flu shot last year, they still need a vaccination this year as the vaccines are modified annually to address new strains of viruses.
