U City Gets in Back-to-School Mode

MOVE-IN DAY AT WASH U
Thursday is the main move-in day for new students at Washington University. Nearly 1,500 freshmen are expected to haul everything from refrigerators and microwaves to carpets, bicycles and stereo systems into their new homes away from home. Motorists beware - there will be a heavy presence of trucks, vans, minivans and U-Hauls on the roads near campus.

POPSICLES WITH THE PRINCIPAL
Instead of a meet and greet, Jackson Park Elementary is holding a sweet and greet for parents and students of JP. They're invited to enjoy popsicles while meeting the principal of JP Elliott Shostak.

BCJ ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Munch on some ice cream and stroll around University City's new state of the art school building. The new Barbara C. Jordan building is welcoming students with an open house and ice cream social.

JACKSON PARK CLEAN-UP DAY
Help tidy up the grounds of Jackson Park Elementary before the first day of school on Monday. It's a great way to meet other families and students. Participants will pick-up trash, trim plants, weed and garden.

UCHS ALUMNI PICNIC
It doesn't matter whether you graduated University City High School in 1915, 2010 or any other year - all UCHS alumni are invited to the annual Family Picnic & Open Grill this Saturday at Heman Park. The picnic is a potluck event with charcoal grills available. Participants should bring meat, side dishes, beverages for their group and friends.
