Recycle Holiday Lights in University City

Drop off your lights at University City Hall in the basement.

'Tis the Season to Recycle!

Reduce waste and spread cheer this holiday season by donating your broken or unwanted holiday lights to St. Louis Green's 2012 Holiday Light Recycling Drive!

This year, St. Louis Green hopes to divert over 128,000 pounds of lights from entering our landfills. The lights are processed by Metal Exchange, a local company, that uses a special machine to crunch and separate the lights into their constituent materials: copper, glass and plastic. The materials are then recycled and sent back to manufacturers to be used in new products.

Not only does the Drive help protect the environment, but it also helps feed the hungry. A portion of proceeds from the drive is donated to Operation Food Search, helping those less fortunate to have a happier holiday season.

A collection container is available at University City City Hall, in the basement level. Drop off your holiday lights during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
