Get Out: Burger Battle, Midnight Movie and Free Jazz Concert at Wash U

Here's a roundup of what's going on in or near University City this weekend.

It's Thursday, and you've got no idea what you'll do for the weekend. University City Patch is coming to the rescue. Check our picks for the activities to hit and places to explore.

  • Thursday, July 14 from

  • Whole Foods in Brentwood (1601 S Brentwood Blvd).  
  • Local chefs compete to see who has the best grass-fed beef burger. Chef Cary McDowell of Winslow’s Home and Farm in University City and Chef Nicholas Miller of Harvest in Richmond Heights are among the chefs taking part. The public will sample the entries and vote for the best burger. The event includes live music from Swing DeVille and beer tastings from Schlafly’s.

  • Holmes Lounge on the campus of Washington University
  • The St. Louis Jazz Ensemble with drummer Maurice Carnes will perform a free concert as part of the university’s annual Jazz in July series.

  • This week’s “Reel Late” series is the movie Wet Hot American Summer (Rated R), starring Janeane Garofalo and David Hyde Pierce. The comedy parodies the 1970s-1980s summer camp genre.

  • St. Louis Zoo 
  • As part of the zoo’s Friday night jungle boogies series, Satin will perform. The concerts are free. They are held at the Schnuck Family Plaza near the sea lion basin in the center of the zoo.

 

BOOK FAIR & ICE CREAM SOCIAL AT THE BRENTMOOR

  • The Brentmoor opens its doors to everyone for a Book Fair, Ted Drewes Ice Cream, Gus's Pretzels and live music provided by Fanfare.
