Five Things to do This Weekend

Here are some suggestions of things to do in or near University City this weekend.

BROWN BAG YOUR LUNCH AND HEAD TO THE LIBRARY
Gather at the U City Public Library for a discussion of the first 2 chapters of the Civil Rights book Eyes on the Prize. The library will provide drinks and dessert. Washington University performing arts professor Ron Himes will lead the talk. The front desk will have copies of the book. The talk is in conjunction with Wash U's Edison Theater presenting Himes' production of "Hairspray" October 14-30. Himes is directing the musical.

SPORTS SATURDAY AT CENTENNIAL COMMONS
Come out and watch athletes battle it out on Saturday at Centennial Commons. Sports include: Wheelchair Basketball, Power Soccer, Track and Field, Hand Cycling and more.  Rampage from the St. Louis Rams will make a special guest appearance. The event is an opportunity for people who live with a physical, visual disability or deaf or hard of hearing to take part in sports and fitness activities.

UCHS BAND CAR WASH
The UCHS Band Boosters is sponsoring a car wash to raise money for the band’s trip to march in The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff’s homecoming parade on November 5.

WUSTL MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR THE LATE DEAN JAMES MCLEOD
Washington University will hold a memorial event to honor James McLeod's life and service. McLeod was vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University. He died last after a two-year battle with cancer.  He was 67.

COLUMBUS DAY PARADE ON "THE HILL"
Residents of St. Louis’ famous Italian neighborhood hold their annual Columbus Day Parade and Festival. People are invited to line the route and watch the floats, cars and bands go by. Then head over to Berra Park for an afternoon of food, music and fun.
