Five Things to Do This Weekend

Here are some suggestions of things to do in or near University City this week.

SNOW BALL AT THE MOONRISE
Friday the Moonrise Hotel hosts the 2nd annual Snow Ball in St. Louis. The soiree is a precursor to Saturday's Delmar Loop Ice Carnival. There will be cocktails and cuisine. DJ Mahf will spin the tunes. Guests are encouraged to dress in their finest fiery red and icy white attire. Tickets are $30 per person. CLICK HERE for ticket website.

LOOP ICE CARNIVAL
The 7th annual Ice Carnival takes over the Delmar Loop area Saturday. The all-day event is fun for the entire family. There will be a putt putt pub crawl, human dog sled races, ice carving demonstrations and game booths. A highlight for the kids - ice slides. Visit the the official Delmar Loop website for more information. The event is FREE. It'll cost you for food, drinks and other activities.

U CITY MLK CELEBRATION
The University City School District will host its 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Saturday at the high school. The community is invited to join District staff and students in commemorating Dr. King's legacy. The event begins with a short parade,starting at Jackson Park Elementary School and ending at the high school, located at 7401 Balson Ave. UCHS alum Redditt Hudson will be honored as the recipient of the Board of Education's 2012 MLK Spirit Award.

SHAW PARK ICE RINK'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Sunday head to the Shaw Park Ice Rink and help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Clayton landmark. There will be trivia, family games, prize raffles, activities and treats!

PENGUIN PARADE AT THE ZOO
What do penguins like to do on a cold winter day? Play outside, of course! When the temperature is 50 degrees or below, several king and gentoo penguins will venture outdoors for a burst of winter fun with their keepers. They'll waddle for about 30 minutes.
