Celebrate Mardi Gras Family Style with Beads and Face Paint at the Zoo or Head to the Science Center for a Brain Carnival

Here are some activities you can do with the family in or near University City.

Looking for something fun and different to do with the kids / family this weekend in or near University City? Look no further! We’ve got some ideas right here!

DELTA DENTAL MARDI GRAS 

When/Where: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m Sunday, St. Louis Zoo. Why Go: The Zoo-style Mardi Gras celebration is complete with mask-making, beads, face painting and grand finale parade. Attendees can also dance to live music courtesy of Bob Case with his Wild Accusations. Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Saturday, March 5 from 10am-4pm at the St. Louis Science Center. Why Go: It’s a brain carnival! Your kids are sure to learn a lot and have fun while doing so. Pricing: Free

When/Where: Sundays (including March 6) at the St. Louis Science Center from 1pm-4pm. Why Go: Bring the family out each Sunday at the St. Louis Art Museum and enjoy hands on activities, 30 minutes tours throughout the gallery, a host of fun filled family performances.  Each month focus on different themes. Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Saturday, March 5 from 9am-3pm at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Why Go: At the Missouri Botanical Gardens, you and your family can view  a sampling of the 3-D entries created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade for the “Power of Plants” contest. The entries illustrate the properties of plants and the benefits they provide. Pricing: Free for members and kids under age 12. St. Louis City and County residents $4 ($3 for seniors). Everyone else $8.

When/Where: Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 at various times (click above). Auditions take place at St. Louis University High School. Why Go: You have a child that you think has the stuff it takes to be in a Muny Production! Pricing: It’s free to audition

When/Where: Weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the . Mondays at 7pm, Tuesdays at 10am and Thursdays at 3:45pm. Why Go: You’ve got kids that are just the right age to enjoy story time, crafts and songs at the library. Pricing: Free

MOTHERS OF PRESCHOOLERS)

When/Where: Thursday, March 3 from 9:30am-11:30am at , 2950 Kings Xing, Saint Peters (first and third Thursday of the month through April 21). Why Go: If you’re a mother of pre-school aged children, this is a great place to meet other parents with kids the same age. In this group you will find other moms who share common life circumstances. Each meeting will present a guest speaker, snacks and a craft. Childcare is provided. Pricing: Free

 

When/Where: , 318 S Duchesne Dr. in St. Charles. Hors d'oeuvres at 6:30pm, Program at 7pm. Why Go: Unlike some Mardi Gras events / concerts, this concert – put on by the William Lenihan Jazz Trio from Washington University – is open to the whole family. Pricing: $12 suggested donation.
