Washington University: Places to Eat Around Campus

Patch looks at the best places to check out around Washington University in St. Louis's Danforth campus.

Everyone loves a good dining hall meal, but the area around —specifically in the neighboring communities of University City, Clayton, Maplewood, Richmond Heights and Brentwood—has some great options when students are ready to venture off campus.

Breweries

  • — Schlafly's regular beers, available year-round on tap and in bottles, include Pale Ale, Hefeweizen, Kolsch, Oatmeal Stout, APA and Pilsner. Seasonal brews are available at different times throughout the year.

  • Clayton features two of the St. Louis-based coffee shops.  in downtown Clayton and the original .
  • on the Delmar Loop is another favorite spot for studying.

  • — The local pizza joint is located on Clayton Road near campus.

Pubs

  • — A great pub in downtown Clayton featuring brunch, a great dinner selection and several televisions to watch English Premiere League football and other sporting events.
  • — The pub boasts the largest patio on The Loop.
  • — Good beer and food selection on the Delmar Loop.

International Cuisine

  • : Gokul, located in the Delmar Loop, has a buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday except Tuesday.

  •  — Have you been introduced to St. Louis-style pizza? Imo's is known for its thin crust, provel cheese St. Louis pies. Be sure to grab an order of toasted ravioli while you're there. 
  •  — The Kolache Factory in Brentwood serves up the sweet buns filled with any number of toppings. 
  •  — Southern cooking with a St. Louis twist in Maplewood.
  •  — Reasonably priced Italian food from a chain that's been in St. Louis for decades. Locations in Clayton, Maplewood and University City.

  •  — The sushi bar in downtown Clayton has an impressive menu. Try the signature "Oh My God" roll. 

Tapas

  •  —  For great small plates, try this Spanish tapas restaurant in downtown Clayton.
  •  — Sasha's Wine Bar on DeMun in Clayton has a variety of wines, from the reasonably priced to more expensive. The restaurant also features a number of small dishes and a great crepe menu for those with a sweet tooth.
