Why is Vintage Vinyl Planning a Big Party in April?

The general manager of the U City shop has a reason to celebrate.

Vintage Vinyl general manager/head buyer John Henderson said the University City record shop is looking forward to Record Store Day, which is set for April 20. People across the country and world will be celebrating independent record stores.

“We’ll have bands playing all day, special guest DJs, free beer, free cupcakes," Henderson said. "it’s a big party.”

Henderson said hundreds of exclusive releases will be available that day and offered only at independent stores.

With so much music offered digitally these days, Vintage Vinyl is still going strong. Vinyl is half the shop’s name, and old records are still a big part of its business.

“Everybody is looking for new vinyl, old vinyl and everything in between,” he said. "We keep bringing it in and putting it out, and it keeps walking out the door. Vinyl is still definitely on the increase.”
