Thinking Pink: St. Louis Bread Company Gives Away Free Bagels Saturday

Free pink ribbon bagels are available to Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure participants Saturday only. Proceeds will benefit the organization.

After 10 years together,  and Susan B. Komen for the Cure have a stronger partnership than ever. The evidence was clear when last year, at just 9 a.m., the Bread Co. on Telegraph Road ran out of Pink Ribbon Bagels.

This year, Bread Co. is prepared for the masses, local marketing manager Kelly Nicholson said.

“This is a local marketing event for all 47 of the bakery-cafés in the St. Louis area,” she said. “We made 6,000 Pink Ribbon Bagels last year, and this year we have expanded to 9,000 bagels (for the St. Louis area). Last year we ran out pretty early.”

Any Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure participant, or anyone who can show proof of association with Saturday’s race, will receive a complimentary bagel. The bagel consists of dried cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, vanilla honey and brown sugar. One hundred percent of the proceeds of those who would like to purchase the bagel will be donated to the Susan G. Komen St. Louis Race for the Cure.

“They used to hand them out at the race, and I think the race gets bigger every year. We quadrupled how many we’ve made,” said Linda Coleman, general manager of the Telegraph Bread Co. “I think it just shows our support of the Komen race, and we donate it all (the sold proceeds), so it’s pretty exciting.”

Those who miss out on Saturday’s event will get another shot to try the bagels when they make a comeback in October, which happens to be breast cancer awareness month.

“In October we are celebrating our 10th Pink Ribbon anniversary, which will be a nationwide program,” Nicholson said. “Komen is a great organization to support through the Pink Ribbon Bagel—it’s kind of a year long partnership."
