Craving a homemade cookie or flavored popcorn? You're in luck-the Cookies & Popcorn Factory is now open in University City.
Resident Linda Shaw opened the sweet shop as a second career - for years she worked with the Department of Social Services.
The shop is located at 8149 Delmar (the corner of Old Bonhomme and Delmar Blvd.)
The recipes are Shaw's but she has a baker cook for her. She offers a wide variety of baked goods - from chocolate chip to lemon.
"I'm waiting for my final certification to be a kosher-friendly establishment," she said. "It was an eye-opening experience for me to talk to the rabbi and learn everything I needed to do."
Shaw said learning about her Jewish neighbors has been one of the pleasant surprises of going into business for herself.
"I love the diversity of U City," she said. "I've lived around the corner for years but I'm still learning about all the cultures and religious traditions celebrated here."
The Cookies & Popcorn Factory is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
