Sun to Power Moonrise Hotel's Rotating Moon

Solar canopy will power the giant rotating moon at the Moonrise Hotel.

The Moonrise Hotel in the East Loop plans to install solar panels above the rooftop bar, according to a press release from the hotel.

The solar canopy will generate enough power to light and turn the giant rotating moon, as well as power the bar operations, states the release.

The 60-foot canopy of solar panels will also provide cover for bar patrons, protecting them during inclement weather.

"It’s amazing to realize that the sun can supply all the power we need to run our Rooftop Terrace Bar,” said Joe Edwards, owner of the hotel.
